Symposium on Music and Art "The Music Faculty will present a program designed as an explanation for the layman of one of the problems of contemporary music with which creative minds in this field are working today. In anticipation of the Symposium on Music and Art to be held at the College on May 15, 16, and 17, in which Music by Carl Ruggles, Charles Ives, Roger Sessions and Edgard Varose will be heard, the problem of contemporary music that most obviously suggests itself is the Disintegration of the Diatonic System and the Formation of a new Tonal Language, in which each of these men has played an important part. An outline will be given by Mr. Julian DeGray, tracing the gradual transition from classic tonality to contemporary atonality, with illustrations taken from Hymns, Bach, Mozart, Wagner, Ravel, Ruggles, and Jazz."
